He had spent the majority of the trip in deep thought, pacing fore and aft across the ship’s deck. Any attempts to engage him in conversation had been met with little more than grunts or nods and he had refused any breakfast, taking only a few mugs of coffee for sustenance. The reports had clearly troubled him. As soon as he had heard about the lighthouse being dark since the 15th of December, he had an unshakeable feeling in the pit of his stomach that something had gone terribly wrong.
